"A Song of Ice and Fire" kommt ins Fernsehen

HBO has acquired the rights to turn George R.R. Martin's bestselling fantasy series "A Song of Fire and Ice" into a dramatic series to be written and exec produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

"Fire" is the first TV project for Benioff ("Troy") and Weiss ("Halo") and will shoot in Europe or New Zealand. Benioff and Weiss will write every episode of each season together save one, which the author (a former TV writer) will script.

The series will begin with the 1996 first book, "A Game of Thrones," and the intention is for each novel (they average 1,000 pages each) to fuel a season's worth of episodes. Martin has nearly finished the fifth installment, but won't complete the seven-book cycle until 2011.

The author will co-exec produce the series along with Management 360's Guymon Casady and Created By's Vince Gerardis.

Martin's series has drawn comparisons to J.R.R. Tolkien, because both are period epics set in imagined lands. But Martin has eschewed Tolkien's good-vs.-evil theme in favor of flawed characters from seven noble families.

The book has a decidedly adult bent, with sex and violence comparable to series like "Rome" and "Deadwood."

"They tried for 50 years to make 'Lord of the Rings' as one movie before Peter Jackson found success making three," Martin said. "My books are bigger and more complicated, and would require 18 movies. Otherwise, you'd have to choose one or two characters." (...)

ach quark - warum sollte es den büchern nicht gerecht werden? martin hat jahrzehnte als scriptwriter gearbeitet, der weiß ganz genau was geht und was nicht, da mach ich mir mal gar keine sorgen.

freu mich auf jeden fall, einer der besten zyklen überhaupt imo!

Weil's ne TV-Serie wird. Noch dazu 'ne amerikanische. Gerade so ein Buch schreit nach Spezial-Effekten (Drachen, Burgen, Schlachten etc.). Ich sag Euch, das wird ein ganz billiges Ding, diese Serie. Und dazu kindergerecht getrimmt. Man nenne mir eine Action-TV-Serie, die was taugt.

Allerdings. Deadwood zum beispiel, oder Rome (12 staffeln, á 8 Millionen $), verfügzten über ein sehr hohes niveau der ausstattung. falls die für Ice&fire ähnliche etats einplanen, kann ich mir nicht vorstellen, dass das an der umsetzung scheitert.

jeder englische band ist geteilt worden - zum einen aus platzgründen, da das deutsche nun mal mehr platz braucht als das englische und aus 1000 seiten des orginals an die 1500 machen würde und zum anderen einfach um 2 bücher zum preis von einem verkaufen zu können (zb Band 4 macht ohne glossar in der übersetzung gerade mal 450 seiten aus)

btw gibts 8 deutsche, nicht 7^^

Band 4 war der beste (die Schlacht um Kings Landing).

Übrigens hasse ich die Reihe. Trotzdem irgendwie geschickt eingefädelt das ganze. Man muß immer weiterlesen. Bin gerade Mitte des 8. dt. Bandes, und es ist immer noch nicht wirklich was passiert.

naja an die deutschen prunkstücke wie GZSZ oder Lindenstraße wirds sicher nicht rankommen, aber man muss sehen was man kriegen kann.

nee, mal ernsthaft: HBO steht für Sopranos, BS Galactica, Six feet under, Rome ect. also jeder der sich ein bißchen für sowas interessiert sollte da die hände reiben - kA was ihr sonst so schaut aber ich freu mich

Deadwood, Six feet under, Band of Brothers ... das sind mit die besten Serien die ich kenne. Weder actionfixiert noch simpel in Sachen Handlung und Dialoge. Da trauen sich die Macher noch, neue Wege zu gehen anstatt aufgewärmten Einheitsbrei vorzusetzen wie in der deutschen TV-Welt.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.
t's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

wird wohl noch eine ganze weile dauern - aber ich freu mich schon

@Topic, da eine Serie draus zu machen halte ich für schlecht. Sowas gehört in einen Kinofilm/saga wie z.b. Star Wars mit mehreren Teilen wo auch das Budget stimmt um dem Buch annähernd gerecht zu werden.
