Hier mal was von Ask Sandy zum X-Pack
3) Will the expansion include any further european nations?, and if not what have you done to all the art of for example the swedish and italian civ
A – we are using pretty much all the art we had for the Swedes and Italians. Basically they had one special unit each. Personally, I think adding more Europeans would be kind of dull – what would they add that we don’t already get?
2) Is there a possibility of there being more than one X-pac?
A – I think it is exceedingly unlikely. Here’s why. As things stand, people who play the X-Pack won’t be able to play against people who just have the standard game (there are way too many changes). So ESO will have to be divided into two parts – X-Pack and Vanilla. That’s not really much of a problem. But if we add a Y-Pack we’d have to divide ESO up into 4 segments: Standard; X-Pack; Y-Pack; and X+Y Pack. Plus we have the issue of trying to make sure that the Y-Pack both stands alone and with the X-Pack. One possible way to address this would be to require you to own the X-Pack to play the Y-pack, but then this makes the potential audience much smaller, making it less worth doing. You see the problems I’m sure. Anyway, that’s my opinion.
6) are there going to be new European Civs in the X-pac?
A – no
11) Sandy can you tell us what Native Civs might be in the xPAC?
A – Yes, I could tell you, since I’m design lead on the X-Pack. However, for the moment I’m not supposed to talk about stuff not already released by MS marketing L. But I can say that we have Iroquois for sure and two other native civs coming. In fact, we’re playing the Iroquois right now. The most common comment I hear about the Iroquois from the testers is that they’re really fun to play.
13) How will you make Indian civ balanced vs cannons n stuff
A – it’s an exciting challenge to do so. Each of the native civs will have its own characteristic approach to dealing with cannons. Since I’m not sure what the “n stuff” is, I can’t really answer it. If you’re talking about rifles & muskets, then I can assure you that the Iroqouis, at least, were heavily armed with firearms, and this holds true in the game.
15) why is there going to be native american civs?
A – we love them.
16) they are weak in military, they are mostly nomad(so no home cities), they have limited tecnology, so conclusion: if ES is going to native armies historycally accurate, a large native american army would NEVER defeat a large european army
A – what the heck? You obviously know next to nothing about the various Indian Wars. Many native nations were highly militarized, very few of them were nomadic (the highly territorial, conquest-oriented Iroquoois nomadic? Ha!) , and their technology was precisely the same as the Europeans because they got it from them. The Iroquois even ran their own railroad. There are plenty of times that Native American armies defeated European style armies. You ever hear of the Monongahela? La Noche Triste? Reynoguelen? The Modoc War? The Seminole Wars? Arizpe? Guess not. There are hundreds of others.
In conclusion I feel that you are ill-informed on the subject, my friend.
17) Playable American civs is the most stupid thing i have ever heard of, it will totally change aoe3, so why is ES going to do it?
A – we just totally disagree on the “stupid” aspect, since natives presented a pretty credible challenge to the colonization of the Americas. But you did hit the nail on the head on one point – it WILL totally change aoe3. Which is why we want to do it.
1) Will the Iroquois be able to build a trading post on an Iroquois village?
A – I guess it’s not giving too much away to reveal that the Iroquois will no longer be available as a minor ally. This is for two reasons – first, it seems kind of weird for a major nation to ally with a minor version of itself. Second, it makes it clear that the three nations we’ve chosen to make player-civs are major nations, not minor ones. So if you’re playing on, say, New England, after buying the patch, there won’t be any minor Iroquois settlements on the map – they will be replaced by another, appropriate, minor tribe. The only Iroquois you’ll see will be a major civ.
7) why wont you add any new european civs?
A – because they would be boring. We want a new way to play the game.
13) I was wondering about how you might include Mercenaries, Coin, War Ships, Home City Shipments, Trading Posts and Artillery in the Expansion Pack for the Native civs
A – well obviously some of these things were available to the natives. They had trading posts – the Hurons & Algonquins waged a bloody war over native trade routes. Since “coin” in the game represents such varied stuff as furs, whale oil, tobacco, and silver, natives have just as much access to it as Europeans – perhaps more so. Other aspects of the European civs in the game are not available, or available in a greatly altered form. All I’ll say for now is that the natives sometimes have different answers from europeans when faced with similar challenges . If they were just copies of the Europeans, they wouldn’t be interesting, would they?
14) you plan to take into account the "homefield advantage" enjoyed by native americans?
A – yes, and in a very powerful and immediately obvious fashion.
